These materials are used because marble and chrome are easier to clean, stain less than laminate or wood, and look sleeker. However, a sleeker look does not mean the kitchen is uncomfortable. Many modern kitchens utilize lower lighting, and darker colors such as black and burgundy to create a more comfortable setting.

Typically, people choose darker-colored, more modern kitchen tables, and furniture to go in this type of kitchen. Darker hand towels and appliances also keep with the modern theme.
